I think the most interesting thing about this album (since, as Daniel pointed out, it's definitely not the lyrics) is Bazan's admission, in spite of all the arguments he has for the ridiculousness of Christianity, that he cannot escape the feeling that God is there. A good portion of the album sounds more like pleading with God to explain the academic problems he has with Christianity.

That lyrics thing was a little harsh, so I'll retract that the lyrics aren't interesting at all. Some are great for sure, and I really did like the album. I hope David doesn't read this blog...

Bazan is one of the 3 people left wearing Sauconys, as you can tell from the video.

I continue to celebrate Bazan's honesty about his feelings, but also agree that his target used to be more substantial when it was the actual church than now that it is a straw god. Bazan rejects Joel Osteen's version of God and thinks that's the end of the conversation. Although, clearly, he doesn't think it's the end of the conversation at all. As my buddy, Matt, said after last night's show, "he sure does have a lot to say to someone he insists isn't there to hear him."

On a similar note, could this blog also review J. Tillman's new album "Year In the Kingdom"? It's excellent, and would fall into place with the type of albums being reviewed on this blog.

Frances, thanks for the tip. We'll try to give it a listen.
